Summary
The general notion among the legal fraternity is that in-house counsel merely act as 'managers' of legal matters of a company while the bulk of the tasks are outsourced. This is one of the notions I myself carried while I was an independent practitioner and donned the coat and band.

For someone like me who is as interested in the business side of things as the legal side- it definitely fit my bill. As an In-house council , I feel the need to be well versed with business requirements and be an 'enabler' rather than the kind of advisory I would have provided as an external counsel. Legal is as invested in business activities as any sales, marketing or BD chapiter requiring a re-tune of the litigator mindset that I carried.
The concept of an in-house council - or a 'law officer' as it saw its birth- is relatively new and I am curious to see how this vertical of the legal profession takes shape.
