Dr. Sunday Dominico is a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, academician, and clinical researcher with a strong track record in designing, implementing and monitoring maternal and newborn health programs. For over a decade, Dr. Dominico served as Director of Programs and Clinical Director for Thamini Uhai, where he led the design, implementation, and monitoring of evidence-based maternal, reproductive and newborn health interventions. His leadership has directly contributed to improving the quality of care in health facilities, ensuring better outcomes for mothers and newborns. He is also the President-elect of Tanzania’s association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (AGOTA) and is expected to be at the full helm of the association in May 2025. With over a decade of experience, he has developed deep technical expertise in emergency obstetric and newborn care, respectful maternity care, Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR), Adolescent Reproductive health, Comprehensive Post-abortion Care, Family planning and other key interventions along the RMNCAH continuum of care. Dr. Dominico has played a key role in shaping national health strategies, contributing to the development of policies and clinical guidelines, and advancing both pre-service and in-service training for medical and nursing professionals. He has been actively involved in facility-based mentorship, virtual clinical support for healthcare providers managing complications, and operational research to strengthen clinical practices. He is currently leading a team of national experts in reviewing job aids and the Learning Resource Package to accelerate countrywide adoption of the E-MOTIVE PPH Bundle. A committed researcher, Dr. Dominico has co-authored 10 peer-reviewed publications and presented more than 30 scientific abstracts at national and international conferences. Dr. Dominico has been a speaker, panelist, chair, moderator, jury member, and organizer in several sessions at local and international conferences and meetings. His work continues to influence maternal health programming, capacity building, and evidence generation in Tanzania and globally.
