GODFREY SEBASTIAN MGASA is a Range Land Expert with 13 years accomplished professional and extensive experience in degraded land scape restorations and biodiversity conservations for both Wildlife, Agriculture and Livestock purposes through afforestation and other Environmental management practices.
Working under the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, I have gained vast experience in managing and coordinating various Range land Restorations and Conservation Projects which are implemented in Tanzania main land where by currently I am working as Project Coordinatorwith a key responsibility of Promoting Napier Grasses (Juncao), a 5,412,600,000 Tanzanian Shillings worth project funded by the Government of China to Maximize Forage Production in 25 Regions within the Country.
I have participated in LAND DEGRADATION TRENDS AND INCREASING FOOD SECURITY IN DEGRADED ECOSYSTEM OF SEMI-ARID AREAS OF TANZANIA (LDFS) PROJECT which was implemented in Kondoa, Mkalama, Magu and Nzega; where by more than 2800000 acres of Semi-arid areas have been restored and 564327 farmers have been reached.
As the range land expert, I have also been working in the SUSTAINABLE LAND SCAPE RESTORATIONS AND BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION PROJECT working Group which is implemented in 7 Districts (Iringa, Wanging'ombe, Mbarali, Mbeya, Sumbawanga, Mpimbwe and Tanganyika) in Which 90375 farmers have been reached and more than 20,000,000 trees have been planted.
In my working experience of 13 years; I have been dealing with small scale farming communities in the districts of Songea, Madaba and Nyasa; building their capacity in combating their key challenges which are extreme poverty, climate change and biodiversity loss through afforestation, climate smart agriculture and other conservations and restorations practices in which more than 600000 farmers had been empowered from 2012 to 2022 in 68 Villages and more than 1,700,000 acres have been restored and conserved.
I am also well Experienced expert in project monitoring and evaluation of agriculture-related projects; proven expertise in managing and implementing afforestation in smallholder farmers initiatives, coupled with advanced skills in data collection, analysis, reporting, presentation as well as diverse experiences and perspectives of different agroforestry practices which can be helpful to pastoralists and farmers as well. Adept at designing, monitoring, and evaluating activities aligned with Results-Based Management (RBM) best practices. Demonstrated ability to work effectively across stakeholders including government partners, donors, national institutions, and other key actors to ensure successful project implementation and follow-up. Proficient in advanced computer applications for data visualisation and report generation. Committed to fostering local economic development through the evaluation of commercially viable projects.
As a Livestock Field Officer,
i) Member of Monitoring and Evaluation team - Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries from 2022 to 2025.
ii) Coordinator of Pasture Field Farms establishment project in the Regions of Lindi, Ruvuma, Mbeya, Songwe, Rukwa, Kigoma, Mwanza, Simiyu, Singida, Dodoma, Tabora, Morogoro, Iringa, Njombe and Katavi. The project is implemented from 2022 up to 2025 costing 5,968,700,000 Tanzanian Shillings. The project is funded by the government of Tanzania.
iii) Supervisor of Implementation of the Guideline for acquisition, development and management of grazing Areas in all Regions of Tanzania Mainland in which 10,888,579.94 hacters have been demarcated during implementation for grazing purposes.
iv) Member of Sustainable landscape Restoration and Biodversity Conservation Project Team from 2022 up to 2025. In this project, I have been working with Global Environmental Facility (GEF), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Project is implemented in seven Districts which are; Iringa, Wanging’ombe, Mbarali,
Mbeya, Sumbawanga, Mpimbwe and Tanganyika and it is being coordinated by the Vice President’s Office - Department of Environment in Collaboration with International Union for Conservation of Nature.
v)Managed demarcation of grazing land areas In Madaba district from 2015 to 2021 in which 1765430 hacters had been demarcated grazing activities.
vi) Participated in Range land restorations of Semi arid areas in the districts of Kondoa ( Dodoma), Mkalama (Singida) and Magu (Mwanza) in which 13459.79 hacters have been restored from 2022 to 2025.
vii) Project Coordinator of PROMOTION OF NAPIER GRASSES (JUNCAO) TO MAXIMIZE FORAGE PRODUCTION IN TANZANIA PROJECT Working group as a Range land Expert, which is implemented by the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in 25 Regions of Tanzania Mainland. viii) Member of LIVESTOCK CLIMATE RESILIENCE PROJECT Working Group. The Project is Implemented by KINNAPA in Chalinze , Kiteto and Kilosa Districts.
