Research Assistant

  • As a research assistant on the Comprehensive health and nutrition Program for Adolescents (COMPASS) project, I was involved in co-designing of the interventions by gathering insights from multiple stakeholders followed by their analysis and synthesis to come up with a human centered program that will address multiple needs of adolescents in schools including their nutritional needs as well as mental well being.
  • I then participated in preparing the data collection tools, collection of both qualitative and quantitative data and analysis as well as performing follow up on the implementation in these schools.
  • I was involved in multiple meetings with our global partners, report writing at each phase of the project and preparation of dissemination materials.
  • This role also exposed me to working with local government authorities in securing permission to conduct the interventions in schools as well as organizing events such as nutrition day which was used to consolidate the impact our interventions in respective schools.

Internship

Rabininsia Memorial Hospital

  • I was privileged to practice my Clinical Skills at Rabininsia Memorial Hospital under the supervision of Specialists and a supportive staff at the Hospital
  • I obtained extensive exposure while working in CTC as well as RCH
  • I was actively involved in the PMTCT programme whereby testing and counselling was offered to women of child bearing age and their partners, safe sex practices and family planning methods were encouraged among them as well as diagnosis and treatment of other sexually transmitted infections
  • We performed TB screening as well
  • I also contributed in sustained medical knowledge at the Hospital by preparing and delivering a number of Continued Medical Education (CME) presentations.

  • We performed school visits among secondary school students where we provided them with sexual and reproductive health education through the prepared curriculum as well as engaging them through games and different activities.

Rotaract Medical Camps

  • We performed mass screening of infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases among high-risk populations
  • We also did mass distribution of therapeutic and prophylactic drugs accordingly such as deworming medication, anti-malarial drugs, insecticide treated nets and antihypertensives
  • We also provided education on those diseases.

Elective field research

  • I prepared a research proposal and after obtaining the research permit, I visited several primary schools in Dar es salaam, where I got to speak with the children about the subject matter
  • I also got to educate them at the end of the data collection
  • Afterwards I compiled the data, analysed it and wrote a report.

Community Health field studies

Msata Health Centre and Msoga Disctrict Hospital

  • After intensive and extensive training on Health Management, I worked at various Health Facilities in Pwani and Tanga Regions including Msata Health Centre and Msoga District Hospital especially in areas of community health and got to learn how the CHMT works and how different treatment programs in Tanzania are carried out from the grassroot level
  • We also got to assess the knowledge and attitude of the residents of these areas on the Covid 19 vaccines that were available in our country.

CDC field research

  • We visited various households that were within our sample space to assess the understanding of its members on Tuberculosis by giving them questionnaires to fill
  • Afterwards we got to process and analyse the data and write a well detailed report of our findings.

One Health Nutrition field study

Dodoma

  • We got to visit several households in different areas in Dodoma where we assessed nutrition status among the children in these households
  • After educating the parents on what the purpose of our study was, we weighed the children, measured their heights as well as their mid-upper arm circumference
  • We then assessed the data and wrote a report comparing our findings and the available literature.
