As Assistant Procurement and Logistics Officer my roles are:

  • To support and assist senior Procurement and Logistics on management of project vehicles and drivers.
  • Purchasing office equipment such as (stationery, consumables, seeds, manure, etc.
  • Prepare the contracts for local suppliers, making hotel reservation and hosted the guests both international and local.
  • Planning for routes and cars arrangement also to assign in duty the drivers, making sure all vehicles are in good condition all the time, cross check for car record such as logbook are filling per route and all details are correct and proper for office purpose.
  • Organized the service schedules for the office cars making sure are done in time, communicate with vendors to make sure we negotiate in prior before work taking place this is easy way for price awareness and provide room for bargaining.
  • Making sure those proper document concerning cars such as (Registration card, Insurance cover note, LATRA stickers for pickup, and safety sticker) are valid and kept in the car as Road Traffic regulation states, to ensure all safety gears and health measurement are taken all the time in working environment.
  • Update and inform the management for any issues occurs at work that may need their attention or awareness.
  • I participated on solving several conflicts between staff and finally succeed to mitigate them at early stage before to escalate to high level of management.

  • Operated as one of the core team members since I was only person managing and dealing with 4 cars based at field offices (Lindi & Masasi) the main activities was driving and making sure all cars are in good condition for identify any default happened or prediction of any challenge may encounter during project implementation while perform minor maintenance and prepare service schedule at proper time, participate in visitors planning and providing better plan for them during the visit.
  • Involved in meeting for annual budgeting plan for providing accurate budget for fuel and maintenance costs.
  • Providing guidelines and orientation for the new staff who may get approval to drive official cars this is to make sure new staff are fully aware of to manage cars and SWISSAID car Policies must obeyed as mentioned.
  • Participated in monthly meeting for providing an update the condition of cars and the best way of utilized the resources and giving advise such as staff to merging their trip if we are facing shortage of cars, hosting international and local staff, internal and external guests making sure they are safe and happy for those days they will be at field by providing necessary support they may need since am so good on social intervention.
  • Capability to drive long distance, I have been driving for 1000kms consecutive per day with few stops for eating and other refreshment, while maintaining defensive driving.

· As Assistant Surveyor my roles were to support and assist senior project Surveyor on putting demarcation to all identification areas, and lines before digging process taken place.

· Help to provide the safety information to the villagers who will be nearby the project areas the aim of this activities were giving awareness concern with hazards may happen during the project implementation and the best way of protecting themselves from those predictions hazards maybe happened.

· I also supported senior Surveyor to carry the bundles of wires and tools may going use during the demarcation process, to making sure all lines are well protected and surrounded with reflectors which can be seen even at night.

· Also making sure that we tried to our level best to divert the lines to be far away from people habitants and all inflammable materials are kept away and safe.

· During we are implementing the project I succeeded to introduce an idea to establish campaign we call “Mtoto usicheze mbali na nyumbani” by providing toys and books so that they can play and read this was helpful campaign because it saved the kid's life by playing around their homes after back to school instead of playing on the streets.

Accomplishments

Since I have been working with SWISSAID for more than ten years as driver with full responsibilities to take care cars such as inspection pre- and post trip, making sure all cars are in good condition and service done in timely manner , drive short and long trip now am become strong and professional driver and logistics hence I was the one who introduce the ideas of installation of car track system into office's cars this was helpful idea since reduce number of accident since staff knowing that car wil be tracking and shows driver's behaviors, this also reduce maintenance cost , also it help to reduce if not eliminate an official trips and result it reduce fuel cost.
