A 5 years programme funded by WWF NL and IUCN NL aimed at ensuring the Rukwa-Katavi Landscape is sustainably managed and climate resilient, with its water sources, biodiversity, and local community’s livelihoods secured and the communities actively taking part in its management.

Achievements:.

  • Coordinated 7 CSOs consortium to stay true to its programme mission.
  • Successful presented Tanzania to 16 countries implementing the programme worldwide and linked the communication between consortium, programme key stakeholders and programme Donor.
  • Led to the designing and implementation of CSOs capacity building for policy influencing and engagement in multi-stakeholder’s processes at the landscape.
  • Led the consortium to the strengthening of tripartite partnerships (Government, CSOs and private sector) at the landscape through the establishment of functional multi-stakeholdersplatforms for dialogues and common agenda development for nature conservation.
  • Led the consortium into the successful implementation of community conservation and livelihood interventions in Rukwa and Katavi Regions.

Project Manager -Participatory Forest Management

The project aimed at empowering Ruvuma landscape (Pwani, Lindi, Mtwara and Ruvuma Regions) communities to become the legal owner of the Village forest and generate money from selling forest products through sustainable timber harvesting.

Achievements:.

  • Developed and initiated projects, including managing costs, schedule and performance through scoping and scaling up community land forest reserves through participatory forest management activities
  • Guided to the provision of accurate, detailed quantity take-offs from project drawings and technical specifications from the forest product enterprises owned by the communities including sustainable timber trade
  • Drove team success through shared vision and recognition of quality performance by strengthening partnership among implementing partners such as WWF-Tanzania, TFCG/MJUMITA and other landscape key stakeholders particularly Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS).

The system gives recognition to forest managers who follow international standards and best practices of responsible management and fair treatment of local people.

Achievements:

  • Led to the development and updating rules and criteria for Community forest certification
  • Conducted with great efficiency the Forest health monitoring ( supporting village forest patrols, supporting communities to conduct Rare, Threaten and Endangered species (RTE's) monitoring and maintaining wildlife habitats in Village forest reserves)
  • Oversaw the maintenance of all FSC standards
  • Prepared and participating in both internal and annual international FSC audit
  • Coordinated the exploration of International timber the market for FSC Certified timber

A project designed by MCDI under big REDD+ programme in Tanzania aimed at reducing poverty to the local communities in Kilwa District by combining REDD, Participatory Forest Management and FSC Certification.

Achievements:

  • Led the community sensitization interventions on REDD and climate change in general
  • Participated in designed of the project tools including, training manuals, forest management plans, forest certification compliance tools, fire control plans and forest healthy monitoring tools
  • Presented organization at the National and International conferences to share and showcasing the project impacts
